It’s officially 2017. Now is the time when we’re thinking about how – in stark contrast to the excessive holiday boozing and binging of the weeks before – to commence the new year a bit more gracefully, thoughtfully, and healthfully.
And this is when meal kit delivery services enter the picture. While the market’s become increasingly crowded with enticing options, I’m here to tell you why Home Chef – which I had the pleasure of testing recently – stands apart from the rest.
Founded in 2013, the Chicago-based company has witnessed blistering growth. (In fact: in just the past four months, volume has doubled, and the company received $40 million in funding to sustain its incredible growth.) Today, Home Chef is delivering over 1.5 million meals per month.
The culinary team creates ten unique dinners every week. All the ingredients are perfectly portioned, to remove any guesswork. So, whether you’re counting your calories, sodium, or fat intake, you’ll know exactly what you’re eating. (Each serving costs approximately $10, and you can preset your dietary preferences in your profile.) As the customer, you can customize your weekly delivery – so you’ll receive what you want for the week, on the day you want it. You can also conveniently stop the service anytime you need to.
On the day of your requested delivery, you’ll receive a box filled with your meals neatly-organized and labeled. (Meat and fish are vacuum-sealed separately.) You’ll also receive a binder and colorful, easy-to-follow recipe cards, which not only go into great detail about how to cook your meal, but other helpful and handy tips – guaranteeing a delicious meal for even the newest of home chefs. (Seriously, Home Chef makes cooking at home completely goof proof and foolproof.)
Like its competitors, Home Chef makes cooking at home incredibly convenient, but what makes gives this particular service a serious competitive edge is variety and the ability to customize. Having ten meal options weekly gives you plenty to choose from, and seeing upfront on the website which meals tick off your dietary boxes – whether it’s vegetarian, low-calorie, low-carb, or a combination – gives you even more control of what you’re eating and more importantly, peace of mind. And going into the new year, what could be better than that?
